X-Men Dark Phoenix was a step in the wrong direction after X-Men: Apocalypse. The plot follows the X-Men team as they save astronauts who are stranded in space caused by an unknown anomaly. Jean Grey gets hit with brunt of it, but survives and also changed. She gains more power than she realizes, but at a terrible cost and now the team has to confront her. I think the story is a little bit of a jumbled mess. I think the Dark Phoenix persona is hardly used as it is intended, which is not good with that name as the title. The inclusion of the weird alien creatures is such an odd choice ans I think that idea should’ve been scrapped completely. I think the performances are good, which is really the one thing that holds it up for me, that and they ending. I’m very glad they reshot the ending adding the train sequence because that makes the film better, with some much needed action in a movie where a whole lot of that doesn’t happen. I think I a good chunk of this movie is honestly boring, which I don’t think you should be bored during an X-Men movie if I’m being honest. All in all, there are a few things I like about X-Men: Dark Phoenix, but overall it is just a messy, boring film. I give X-Men: Dark Phoenix a 2/5!

3.9/10 This movie, like Apocalypse, just decides not to pick a main character. Why? No clue. I don’t even know the names of the aliens because they’re so unimportant to the plot. They could have been cut entirely and the story would not have changed. Another baffling decision was the idea to bring in the military come in again. They serve basically the same purpose as they did in Apocalypse: they come in during the end of act 2 to capture and detain the X-Men so they can escape during act 3. I think Sophie Turner might be the first casting this series has missed the mark on. Her acting is not the best, and while the writing is partially to blame (having her say things like “Why is this happening to me?” to herself), her performance isn’t great and is probably the worst the series has seen. Once again, the CGI is hit or miss. A lot of things in this movie look extremely fake. The finale is so lackluster. For a movie without much action to begin with, the battle in New York was disappointing. The train fight was pretty good, however. Usual pros: cinematography, score, action (what little of it there is), etc.
