👌🏻 3.1 / 5 👌🏻 — Edge of Darkness captivates and engages, yet it simultaneously feels generic and overdone. ——— Edge of Darkness presents a relatively straightforward corporate greed murder mystery, but it is elevated by Mel Gibson’s portrayal of a grizzled, smarter-than-average detective and the seasoned direction of Martin Campbell. The film includes a few surprising moments, particularly at the end of the opening act, and Howard Shore’s score is as excellent as expected. Despite these standout elements, the story feels overly familiar and somewhat redundant. While the performances, direction, and music are all solid, the film ultimately fails to distinguish itself. Edge of Darkness is a competent crime thriller that is above average but, unfortunately, still forgettable.
