“Adventure is out there”  After many years, I decided to see this movie again, and I must admit that I did not enjoy it at all. I recognize that a lot of people hold this film in high regard, but if you remove the depressing opening and the general message, the film kind of falls flat.  As much as I love the opening 15 to 20 minutes of the film, there are times when it feels like the writers are trying too hard to be depressing by bringing up Russell's absent father or Ellie's death. You often hear that a movie is "Oscar bait," but I believe this one is "cry bait." Lessons learned 1. Life truly is an adventure. 2. Never give up on your dreams, no matter how old you are. 3. If a random kid needs help getting a wilderness badge, help him.

Como se suele decir por ahí, los primeros minutos de esta película son una de las mejores historias de amor que existen. Después de eso, se nos muestra una historia divertida, entretenida y muy original, con muy buena animación y momentos para el recuerdo.

Once again I have to say that if a film makes me cry, its bumped to near the top, and god did that start make me cry. The rest of the film was decent, a normal charming disney animated film, but the first 15 minutes hit me so hard I had to go have a break before finishing the film.

Such a beautiful, heartwarming film and undoubtedly one of the very best that Pixar has ever produced. A fun, slightly bonkers adventure but with a heartbreaking, poignant message throughout. The opening sequence alone is one of the most gut-wrenching things you will ever see, and this is supposed to be a family movie! Everyone deserves their Carl or Ellie and it will make you yearn to have a love and a relationship like they have, perhaps it resonates with me even more now I think I have found mine, but it is a timely reminder that life is short and precious and to make every single moment count. Because you never know when it can be snatched away from you. But as sad as that is, this is a Disney film so it’s going to have hope and optimism, and it succeeds… For there is life beyond grief, and this tale of newfound family and purpose is one that will make your eyes water time and time again.

22/365 for 2023 "That might sound boring, but I think the boring stuff is the stuff I remember the most." - Russell lamenting on his memories with his dad. This watch of Up definitely wrecked me a bit more than previous viewings. I noticed so many more things this time around for some reason: from Russell's profound realizations, Carl's speechless awe of Ellie throughout the beginning, and the amazing amount of visual metaphors for Carl's life. Carl throwing away his crutch to Kevin and not needing it anymore was almost as powerful as him sitting with Russell at Fenton's ice cream and counting cars with him.
