Una buena película, bastante entretenida y con una buena historia, con escenas bastante fuertes y violentas. No me ha parecido una maravilla, pero es digna de verse, tiene unos magníficos efectos visuales, aunque el ambiente dramático echa un poco para atrás.

Pan's Labyrinth is a captivating yet unsettling film that juxtaposes the harsh realities of war and life with a fantastical escape. Similar to violent war movies, it depicts the brutality and cruelty of conflict, but also offers a unique blend of fantasy and imagination. The film's excellent acting and intriguing characters make it a compelling watch, but its mature themes and depiction of violence towards a young child make it a recommended view only for those who can handle the intensity. I rate it four out of five. 4/5

Whilst Del Toro has a filmography virtually incomparable to other directors, one film stands head and shoulders above all his others: Pan's Labyrinth. This is because of how it blends the horrors of the Spanish Civil War and the fascist regime with the horrors that Ofelia faces in the fantasy world. This is aptly demonstrated by Sergi Lopez's menacing and intimidating performance as Captain Vidal and Doug Jones as the Pale Man. Another huge part of my love for this film is the fantastic cinematography and practical effects as both of these are seen in the Pale Man's lair. Here, the sweeping tracking shots and incredibly disturbing design of the Pale Man combine to make it one of the best sequences in the film. Overall, whilst I could talk about my love for this film for days there's only so many ways of saying how good Pan's Labyrinth is without letting you watch it to see for yourselves.

Such a beautiful story that has earned definite rewatches, from me, in the future. I thought there would be much more in the fantasy realm of this story, but it is absolutely perfect in how it balances that with Ofelia's real world struggles. This is perfect all around from the amazing performances of the entire cast, let by Ivana Baquero and Sergi Lopez. Lopez gives one of the scariest and meanest villain performances I've ever watched. Maribel Verdu, as Mercedes, is great as well and really solidifies the ending. Del Toro's writing is perfect, the effects are perfect, and the performances are perfect. No notes.
