8.3/10 John Carpenter’s synth musical prowess knows no bounds, as his score for “Christine” is further proof of. The soundtrack to this film is excellent as well though, using 50s music as preludes to Christine’s wrath. Also, Thorogood’s “Bad to the Bone” was a super fun way to open and close the film. The special effects in this film are few and far between, but they’re front and center in the scene where Christine puts herself back together, and it’s insanely impressive. Through Carpenter’s skilled directorial hand, the car itself is made decently creepy. Between the scene where Leigh almost chokes, the sequence at the gas station, and the finale, Carpenter injects the film with tension. As far as the characters go, Arnie’s change is rather jumpy, but I suppose it could be argued that that’s the point. Leigh and Dennis can be flat at times as well, but overall, they kept me invested in the plot. Are these actors the most skilled? No, but their performances are serviceable. This is a bit more of a light-hearted horror film at times. While it does have tension, there are many moments of levity. It’s important to refrain from taking it too seriously.

I had everything for me to love this film, it's a thriller by John Carpenter (one of the directors I've been enjoying watching the most in recent days), based on a book by Stephen King that reminds me a lot of Carrie, and ok, I liked the film, I really think it's very good, but there's something "more Carpenter" missing here, I think that among the Carpenter films I've watched, this is the "least Carpenter", I missed a more direct mannerism, the soundtrack isn't as marked as in other films by the director and the actors don't even seem to be as comfortable in their characters, but like a good Carpenter film, I managed to see a lot of interesting things here, the horror and tension scenes are excellent, the car effects are really cool, Christine really is a scary character, I love how the scenes with Christine have a very gradual creation of tension, based on great attention to the details of the car. Really, it's far from one of my favorite Carpenter films and I think I might like it more if it was "more Carpenter", but it's a really cool film, and I really enjoyed watching it.
