Not only is this a great action movie, but it really opens up some poignant points about the Vietnam War. Every action scene seems to have a meaning, and has some character development to it, Its not just random explosions. And the final speech where Rambo opens up about his war experience is truly heart wrenching
Great Drama, one of the few movies in that time that would adress PDST. Still works today. Episode Link: https://open.spotify.com/episode/0aNrsuFhDgagz1JbYT9KBw?si=XWs2elHNStmH8tOXZKjqHA
Film Review: Rambo: First Blood First Blood is more than just an action film; it’s an intense and layered drama with Sylvester Stallone delivering one of his best performances as John Rambo. The film dives into the aftermath of war, following Rambo’s struggle as he returns to America after Vietnam. Isolated, with his friends gone and haunted by trauma, Rambo’s loneliness is established from the start—a theme that becomes the heart of the story. The film takes a dark turn when Rambo has a run-in with local police that quickly escalates, leading to a tense manhunt. It raises the question: is the police force chasing Rambo, or is Rambo the real hunter here? This dynamic brings depth to what could’ve been a straightforward action movie, giving it layers of “grey” and pushing past a simple good-versus-evil narrative. Stallone shines here, portraying Rambo as a character scarred by war, a man unable to leave the past behind. His transformation under pressure into survival mode, almost instinctively, is both gripping and tragic. The film doesn’t shy away from heavier themes—loneliness, depression, and the unseen scars that veterans carry. The climax, with Stallone’s raw, emotional monologue, is unforgettable and brings weight to these themes in a powerful way. While the film feels somewhat dated in terms of sound and visuals, its impact remains strong. The drama ultimately outshines the action, making it disappointing that future films leaned more into spectacle than story. Stallone’s supporting cast does well, though no one matches his intensity—and they don’t need to. This is *his* story. For anyone interested in a film that goes beyond bullets and explosions, First Blood is a haunting, impactful look at the cost of war, and a must-watch for Stallone’s performance alone. I rate it an 8/10. #RamboFirstBlood #Rambo #WarMovie #MovieReview #SylvesterStallone #FilmReview #ClassicMovies
