What a beautiful beginning! I loved those first scenes in Northern Iraq. Unfortunately, I didn’t care for the rest of the film. I know little about the impact that The Exorcist had on the horror genre, but people speak so highly of it that my expectations were huge. In the end, the film itself was kind of a letdown.

Im not breaking any molds with my opinion here: An absolutely mesmerizing movie from start to finish that doesn't seem to have much of a religious agenda the way other possession movies may leave you feeling. With everything that surrounds this movie, I'm quite surprised with what I found when I saw it. And I'm not talking about his blatant demonic possession scenes. It's a film with a very serious script, so much so that it not only considers the formalities and protocols within the Catholic Church, but also its approach to science and medicine. At all times we are facing a story that is supposed to be real and therefore, it's treated as such, with real characters, real dramas and real reactions, except for the protagonist, of course. This itself is part of how creepy the movie itself can be. The moments without a soundtrack give even more weight to a mature and raw story. It's indeed a terrifying film and very well done. There is really nothing negative. If I get meticulous, there are certain details of the sound editing and montage that annoy me a bit, but they are typical things of the cinema of those times, so it's understandable. This is a historical piece of cinema, which leaves no one indifferent, including non-religious people. It is definitely one of the best movies in the industry, of its genre.
