8.7/10 I quite liked the cinematography here. There are a lot of interesting still shots. One in particular that stood out to me was when the warden lists off Luke’s army decorations, they have shots of Luke with the American flag flying in the background. This is really a character study on Luke Jackson from the perspective of Dragline. Right from the opening, we get a sense of exactly what kind of person Luke is. There are so many scenes that build his character like this: his fight with Dragline, his conversation with his mother, his escape attempts, so on and so forth. The lead duo (Luke and Dragline) are well acted. The rest of the cast are good as well, but Paul Newman has such a screen presence. The score really captures the location and the tone of the narrative. It’s great.
