Even though a lot of us know that we will get scared while or after watching these movies, we don’t want to miss out on the thrill of the same.

So let us have a look at the best of such movies that should be on the list of everyone who loves the horror genre.

1. The Shining (1980)

It is considered one of the scariest movies made mainly due to the background score of the movie. Though it doesn’t fall into the traditional horror flicks, the psycho-horror theme of the movie along with the brilliant acting of Jack Nicholson and the direction will keep you frozen in your seats.

2. A Tale of two sisters (2003)

This definitely falls into the traditional Horror movies which will give you creeps. Korean movies have definitely set high standards across genres. Specifically in the thriller and horror genres, one can get a glimpse of that by watching this movie. When it was originally released, it became the highest-grossing Korean horror movie of all time and the first one to screen in American Theatres. It was remade in Hollywood as The Uninvited.

3. The Ring (2002)

A Hollywood copy of the Japanese movie Ringu which was remade many times. The originality of the story was its USP which kind of made the screenplay strong. Post watching this, many users will look at their television sets with a tinge of fear. For the feeble-hearted do watch it with a group. There are some moments where you would naturally end up screaming. It got a sequel too but like most other sequels it couldn’t do justice to the original.

4. Ju On: The Grudge

Another Japanese addition to this list which is a constant among the fans of Horror Movies. We are pretty sure you must have hidden yourselves under a sheet while watching this. The Hollywood copy ‘Grudge’ kind of kept the shooting location in Japan, a deviation from the Ring where the copied one was shot in the USA.

5. Paranormal Activity Series

What the Paranormal Activity series brought differently to the Horror genre was the fact that the whole movie was shot on a Video Cam. Though this concept was introduced in the widely acclaimed ‘The Blair Witch Project, it was the Paranormal Activity movies that brought its role in increasing the fear factor to the forefront.

6. The Exorcist

This is a classic in the Horror genre and if you haven’t watched it you should by all means. Add to that if you have a Home theatre, watch it preferably there to get the most of it. Actually, that is true for most classic Horror movies. One scene you won’t forget post watching this is the inverted form of the possessed character and the way she chases the folks while being in that hands-down and legs-up mode.

7. The Conjuring Series

The Conjuring series recently have set a standard of their own mostly since they are loosely based on true investigations of supernatural activities by Ed and Lorraine Warren. The movies are well made too, especially the first couple of them. The screenplay, direction, and the scary moments are brilliant enough to capture the audience.

8. Mirrors

Mirrors might not be a popular pick for the best Horror movies but it brings a unique angle of presenting the haunted in mirrors and does it very successfully. It is a fast-paced Horror flick where you keep praying for the central characters but in vain.

9. 1408

This again might not be on everyone’s list but the John Cusack and Samuel Jackson starrer keeps you scarily engaged all the time. Rather than the regular concept of a haunted house, this one focuses on a specific hotel room. And you won't come out of the room in full senses.

10. Shutter

A Thai entry in the list, Shutter is another movie that got remade in many languages owing to a good storyline and the important elements of Horror movies like the background score, the well-planned scary moments, and a justified ending. The ending in fact will give you some jitters if you are watching for the first time.
