A better friendship and family story than the original, but that's where any advantages stop. Another remake that didn't need to happen, but I understand they needed the marketing to help this get any attention. A cliche and very predictable story with mcguffins spotted from miles away. Delivered with some solid music, decent comedic bits and callbacks, and enough heart and emotion to get me a little teary eyed. Lance Reddick, Teyana Taylor Vince Staples are great supporting cast and Arturo Castro is always fun as a little cameo. This is far Inferior to the original for any basketball scenes but pays its homage in shooting locations and a few borrowed lines. Not terrible but also not necessary. 152/500 movies & tv for 2024
