She was only five years old! She was only five years old!" A woman is released from prison after serving time for a violent crime. And society refuses to forgive her past. Starring none other than, Sandra Bullock (Speed, Gravity) who can be hit or miss with roles they choose, is back at it again with Netflix! And rounding out the relatively solid casting with Academy Award Winner: Viola Davis, and staunch industry veterans; Vincent D'Onoforio and Jon Bernthal. Making my way through the movies of 2021 and saw this one, which I had yet to watch. Bullock plays a person who has a checkered, criminal past. And getting released from prison, they hope to rekindle a relationship with a long-lost sister. All the while experiencing society on the outside, and people still feeling a type of way. Learning time passing by, doesn't equate to forgiveness. The most serviceable quality about this movie, personally, is the acting chops we get at moments of the movie. There are a couple of, passionate, exchanges between some of the characters. They were able to tear-jerk most noticeably. I was moved by a particular exchange between Sandra Bullock and Viola Davis. How the cast does acting out their parts is mostly solid. Now, the cons are there. Noticeable as can be with the plot/screenplay of the movie. As if no questions will be asked by the end frame or during the viewing, there are more than a couple of plot holes and head-scratching moments in this movie. The plot holes serve as mind-numbing absurdness when it's sat back on and reflected. How does this happen and/or why does this happen? Those can remain lively. All in all, I'm glad I saw this movie once. There haven't been many movies to get my eyes teary in a while. Replaying that scene more than twice, being consumed in its emotions and execution. There are bits of the movie I like. But the plot/screenplay can leave a potential underwhelming feeling. Check this movie out and let me know how you feel in the comment section down below.
