Did not expect this to go the Lannister route but slay ig

I am personally not that big of a fan of the colorful pastels in Wes Anderson's visuals, but even I couldn't deny how exquisite they are in The Royal Tenenbaums. Nonetheless, what I found most striking is how accurately the film captures the essence of family: although every member has a shared set of elements in common stemming from all the years together, everyone is also a complete stranger to the others due to their own personal experiences and traits. A family member is like a mirror: they reflect back to you a realistic, but also distorted, version of yourself. People say the Tenenbaums are a dysfunctional family, but I deeply disagree. They have their own issues, of course. But if they are dysfunctional, then every family around the world also is.

“The Royal Tenenbaums” Apparently I’m in the minority but I thought this film wasn’t as good as i hoped it would be after seeing many people praising it. In my opinion it highlights all the critiques people have with Wes Anderson films. The characters felt way over the top making it hard to empathize with any of them, the story was a little too concerned with being quirky and different to the point that I thought it lacked a lot of necessary structure and intricacy. While the score and the cinematography were both equally stunning (like in every Wes Anderson film), I really thought this film felt cluttered, long, and to be quite frank uninteresting. I will say though the bathroom hair cutting scene with Luke Wilson really hit me for some reason, but besides that the film felt relatively bland. I feel like The Royal Tenenbaums is a less impactful and more hollow version of some of the films Wes Anderson has gone on to make. ★★★ - good movie (6/10)

Story: The Tenenbaum family is full of geniuses: a businessman, a tennis player, and a writer. However, their father, Royal, has been absent for much of their life. When he wants to see them and be with them again, he fakes having cancer and convinces them that he is going to die. Pros: -Visually stunning with great camera work -Great soundtrack -Well written -Good performances -Blends comedy and drama well Cons: -Corny ending -Romanticized suicide -Chas’ emotional moment seems forced and unbelievable -The dynamic between Ritchie and Chas seems a little off
