I had no idea what to expect but then I got hooked as hard as she is to those tranquilizers. Beautifully written and filmed. A definite must watch.

The great miniseries that revitalized a game as classic and ancient as chess, thanks to Anya Taylor-Joy's excellent performance, which would catapult her to new levels of reputation in the film and TV industry. The story is a bohemian whirlwind that sweeps away everything in its path, threatening even the great talent of an artist who fails to define the line between discipline and pleasure. Like many other artists at the beginning of the last century, when drinking plunged them into downward spirals of decadence, Beth navigates a difficult path, in an era when women were still not treated as they deserved. The setting is one of the best I've seen. It's like being immersed in the 50s and 60s. Interior sets, exteriors, clothing, hairstyles—everything impeccable. An absolutely remarkable series. Where does it fall? Despite there being thousands of direct references to the game itself, I think more was missing. There's also a lot of redundant drama, which highlights Taylor-Joy's skills, but perhaps is superfluous in the plot. Other points are too predictable, somewhat ruining the plot's surprise. Ultimately, Netflix justifies the success of this miniseries, which will remain a timeless recommendation.

Mindful and captivating.. a limited series on Netflix.. worth binge watching .... highly recommended. Story of an orphan girl’s passion to be a chess world champion, the challenges she faces and the relationships she forms during her entourage to be the number one are beautifully presented. Wonderful direction and acting. If you want to watch something witty and intriguing, this is the one.

THE QUEEN’S GAMBIT The Queen’s Gambit is an American drama miniseries starring Anya Taylor-Joy. It is based on the novel of the same name by Walter Tevis published in 1983. The series follows the life of Elizabeth (Beth) Harmond, a child prodigy, who after being orphaned, discovers a strong passion for chess and begins a brilliant career in this competitive world, following a subtle line between passion and self-destructive obsession. The passion for chess allows Beth to find a place to feel safe, where everything can be controlled but the pressure of being perfect and the memories of her tragic childhood let her slip into alcohol and drug addiction. Anya Taylor-Joy, despite still being a young actress, manages to give the character a sense of melancholy and restlessness. The moments of silence or concentration during a game of chess are those in which she manages to be most magnetic. Also featured in the cast Thomas Brodie-Sangester (The Maze Runner) and Harry Melling (Harry Potter), which in this series manages to be very intense but without weighing down the interpretation.
