Famosísimo western en el que se nos presenta una historia algo distinta a las típicas de este género, en esta ocasión no es una cinta donde hay unos malos y muchos tiros, esto va del progreso, de ese momento en los Estados Unidos donde la llegada del ferrocarril y las concesiones territoriales hicieron cambiar rápidamente toda la zona del salvaje oeste. Protagonizada por dos grandes del cine, James Stewart y John Wayne, haciendo papeles más que correctos y sobresalientes en ciertas escenas, cuenta la historia de un territorio que vive asolado por un forajido que se toma la justicia por su mano sin que nadie pueda hacer nada por detenerlo, por puro miedo. A este pueblo llega un abogado con intención de llevar el progreso a un pueblo de este territorio, y se encuentra cara a cara con un muro de miedo y estancamiento por parte de los habitantes, debido a este malvado. Una película interesante, bien llevada, aunque reconozco que no me ha parecido la maravilla que se supone que es, no se si por el hecho de que este género cinematográfico nunca me ha entusiasmado demasiado.

8.9/10 The characters are all quite strong. Tom Donophin is one of the greats in terms of cool movie cowboys. Yet, we don’t focus on him. Our protagonist is Ransom Stoddard, an educated, stand-up lawyer, who brings literacy to the town of Shinbone. Their clashes with Liberty and each other are incredible. The only story decision I don’t love is the introduction of the territorial convention at the end. It’s set up properly, but its impact was lessened for me because it occurs after Ransom shooting Liberty. The performances are great as well. John Wayne plays his usual role perfectly, occasionally stealing the show. James Stewart Lee Marvin is despicable as Liberty Valance. The score is excellent. The main theme feels like a march, which, I think, speaks to how Shinbone progresses to become more educated. There are some small visual gags, like the Marshall’s tab and Mr. Peabody getting scared of Tom’s hat, all of which are hilarious. The film is largely well shot. There are only a few jarring cuts here and there. Almost all of the takes are clean.
