8.7/10 The cinematography is generally good, with the exception of the scenes that take place at night. They were lit so strangely that I initially thought they took place during the day and the exposure was weird or something. Elmer Berenstein is no Ennio Morricone, but this score puts him damn close. The main theme is so upbeat and intrinsically western. Calvera’s theme is also instantly recognizable. When you basically have seven main characters, you have to nail their introductions, and The Magnificent Seven does. Every character is memorable here, even if they’re a bit flat. The only one I didn’t really care for was Petra, and, by extension, her romance subplot with Chico. The shootouts are so much fun here, but they also have tension to them. They’re fast-paced and never really felt boring.
