Un clásico que tenía pendiente y que por fin me he decidido a ver. Pese a durar casi 3 horas, es una película realmente entretenida, al menos en su mayor parte, bastante divertida en ocasiones y que no deja indiferente. Con un tremendo reparto, lleno de caras conocidas del celuloide en la época, grandes actuaciones y momentos, y el hecho de estar basada en hechos reales, que la hace aún más interesante. Todo el grandísimo plan de fuga, la increíble organización y el curro impresionante que se meten es lo mejor de la película, sin lugar a dudas. Toda esta parte es muy disfrutable, y uno está deseando saber como sale en plan. Ahora, una vez que se lleva a cabo la fuga, la película pierde un poquito de interés para mi gusto, la cinta hace aguas, y pasa de lo divertido a lo bastante dramático, acabas pasándolo hasta mal por los personajes. Aún así, es un clásico digno de verse, con esa forma de contarlo, con esa banda sonora tan conocidísima y que tan bien acompaña, y con los carismáticos personajes.

Most of the pre 1980s highly rated films I watch I don’t like. This however, deserves the love. How they managed to make a movie mostly set in a German work camp not boring is amazing. While it is long, every second has a purpose. I love the mutual respect the Kommandant gives the prisoners. Obviously the Nazi’s were the bad guys but some of them were human. It was really interesting to me how Steve McQueen is labeled as the main character, but gets the same amount, maybe even less screen time than the rest of the cast. The rest of the cast is absolutely stacked with great performances by all. Very happy that I finally like a classic. -R
