How have Forest and Denzel not been in more movies together? Unflinching in its earnestness, honesty, and brutality, Denzel's sophomore directorial is strong. Pushing the boundaries of a PG13 rating while providing inspiration and hope in the face of racism is a delicate balance and I think they nail it. The cast is so good and I love a chance to see Whitaker and Denzel face off a bit. The kids are great, but I just could not buy into Denzel Whitaker's performance. Also, I figured he was a nepo casting, but maybe they just liked his name, as he's not related to anyone here that I can find. This almost outshines its predictability but still tugs at the heart strings and delivers a great story. 44th Denzel of 2024 488/500 movies & tv for 2024
