Unless an action movie is unbelievable, it always risks just being a bit bland and feeling a little pointless, and i fear this is what has happened here for me. Don't get me wrong, Denzel going around nonchalantly putting bad guys in their place is always a fun watch. The action is as good as ever in the Equalizer series. As his own character, he is incredibly cool and fun to watch. The problem comes with trying to give this blaze character a good story. It never feels like he has any real stakes, hes never really in danger and it makes it very hard, at this point in the franchise, to stay invested in what happens. And while the cast of supporting actors are great in their own right, there is a severe lack of connectivity between them all. It makes it hard to care about the relationships that are trying to tie all the action together. Its not a bad movie, in fact its a fairly good one, but my enjoyment of it was pretty middle of the road, and i cant give it more than a middle of the road score.

Equalizer like John Wick succeeded in creating its own audience with its unique style and a perfect lead in Denzel Washington who doesn’t believe in violence i less provoked. The calmness Denzel shows as McCall in all three movies of this franchise, it would become hard to picturise anyone else in that role. It is a mix of Drama and Action so if you are expecting an out and out action like John Wick or Wrath of Man, you might be disappointed. But if you love a story being set up with a good mix of emotion and Drama with Action to the core, Equalizer should be in your list. Equalizer 3 fits in the whole scheme of things although more of an independent movie. Unlike John Wick, the connections across movies in this Series aren’t that strong. So you can watch it stand alone as well.

RUNTIME- 1hr 49mins. THE PLOT- Robert McCall finds himself at home in Southern Italy but he discovers his friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he has to do: become his friends' protector by taking on the mafia. GENRES- Action, crime, thriller. THE GOOD- Denzel Washington is great once again as the charismatic Robert McCall, awesome brutal action, loved the setting, they did a good job of making you care about the townspeople, very cool beginning. THE BAD- Pacing, lack of action compared to others, disappointing final battle. THE VERDICT- 7/10. I appreciated what Antoine Fuqua was going for with The Equalizer 3, it didn’t feel like your typical sequel and what you’d expect of a third entry in a movie franchise- sequels are usually bigger/ grander in scale trying to outdo their predecessor, but The Equalizer 3 felt like they pumped the brakes a bit- but in my opinion they slowed down a little too much. I’m all for a slow burner, I love a movie that has a slow build leading to a satisfying finish, but TE3 had that slow burn (introducing a new setting, characters, new softer side to Robert McCall) and a decent build up but it lead to a disappointing final confrontation, and therefore went out with a bit of a fizzle.
