Not rarely one could find me babbling about my innermost thoughts and points of view to her, and she would be there almost strictly listening. She would also often give me and everyone else in our home the silent treatment when she disliked something we did or some personal choice we made. I used to despair just like Alma, trying to pry any reaction from her. It was maddening. I related a lot to Alma because of this sense of shared experience.
