There's a line between satire and ignorance that I'm not sure of but being a 1997 release doesn't bode well. To call it a full satire will require more grace than I can bare. There's an absurd amount of whimsy in the score for a movie that vilifies a recently outed man. There are some funny bits throughout and Matt Dillon plays a perfectly dumb movie star, but it's hard not to wonder about these decisions. Tom Selleck needing to roust Kline's gayness out of him with a kiss and too many mis-guided generalities that every gay man must love disco music, Streisand, and possess effeminate mannerisms and style are just a piece of what's wrong here. Maybe it's genuinely satirical but I'm not buying it. You'll get a few laughs and it's pretty quotable, but only from a "How Did this Get Made" point of view for me.
