El surrealismo hecho película. Había oído mucho sobre ella, pero todo se ha quedado corto ahora que por fin me he decidido a verla. Esto no es una película, es una experiencia digna de ser vivida y contada. Durante buena parte de la peli, parece que estuviéramos viendo una película para niñas, extraña, contada casi como si un cómic se tratase, con partes muy cómicas, con cambios de escenas, superposiciones, cosas inesperadas, cosas muy absurdas, cosas que te hacen perder cordura, pero todo muy dulce, muy simpático, y llega un momento en que esa dulzura choca con un ambiente de mal rollo, chungo, macabro, pero manteniendo en todo momento un tono bestial de humor negro. Es complicado explicar esta película, hay que verla. Me ha parecido una locura genial. Soy incapaz de ponerle una nota más baja, me ha parecido algo de puro culto a primera vista. Recomendadísima.

Second viewing and I still don't entirely know what's happening, but I love it nonetheless. Obayashi delivers one of the most fun experiences in history. An absurd movie start to finish, but it's engaging, has a great story and premise, and features a magic cat. I love the busy jazz music, mix of different styles of effects, and the pure chaos of everything. The editing might be the real feat of cinema here: to keep up with the vision, the absurdity, and the effects and put it into something that is mostly cohesive is awe inspiring. 231/500 movies & tv for 2024
