Oh this feels more like it! this tickles my modern brain a bit more that the others before it. While its not the best movie of the series, or even close, it was cool to once again see a new Bond, and be trust a bit more into the modern world. The action is great and the Villain adds a brilliant drive to the movie.

GoldenEye exploded onto the big screen in 1995, six years after the release of the controversial Licence to Kill. Happily the wait was worth it, because GoldenEye is one of the best James Bond films, featuring a satisfying mix of great action and memorable characters! It was a huge hit, reinventing Bond for the 90s and helping to ensure that the franchise would continue into the 21st Century. The film succeeds in part because it feels a bit like a James Bond Greatest Hits, with 007 trademarks such as the return of the classic Aston Martin, cool gadgets and big action set-pieces all playing a prominent role. Martin Campbell proves himself to be a worthy Bond director, orchestrating the impressive action scenes with great flair, particularly a memorable tank chase through St Petersburg! However, GoldenEye (named after Ian Fleming's home in the Caribbean) also acknowledges the fact that times had changed since 007’s Cold War heyday. Pierce Brosnan owns the part of James Bond! It’s definitely my favourite Bond performance by him and easily his best one. Brosnan looks surprisingly comfortable in his debut here, looking as if he’s been doing it for years already! Pierce Brosnan has always been one of my favourite Bonds! He has amazing screen presence and a suave charm of a sophisticated gentleman spy, that just makes every guy want to be him and every girl wants to be with him! He has the charisma of Sean Connery and the cheekiness of Roger Moore, making him a perfectly balanced Bond. Sean Bean (who seems contractually obliged to die in every acting role he takes on, spoiler alert!) matches Bond both physically and mentally, making him one of the best villains in the whole series! Also stealing the show is Famke Janssen, who is gloriously over the top as the sex-mad henchwoman Xenia Onatopp! “No more foreplay” Onatopp kills men by crushing them with her legs, and she makes for a classic Bond femme fatale! In the end, GoldenEye never loses sight what the film is about. The spy game is all about secrets and betrayal and if you are a spy, keep your friends close and your enemies closer… “For England James?” “No…for me.” Well said 007. Well said!

This is Pierce Brosnan's finest hour as Bond. It's also his least campy entry of the franchise. The film is a bit more serious and self-aware than the three that follow. It's an entertaining ride with great action and terrific stunts. 8.6/10

8/10 And so begins Pierce Brosnan’s time as James Bond. I like him a lot. He’s become my third favorite Bond (for the moment). We’re finally seeing another 00 agent, which is nice. 006 is a very good villain in my opinion. I’m not sure that I like the new M. She’s not bad, but she just seems like she’s mad all the time. I understand that it’s a different person, but the prior M’s have been more sarcastic than anything. It’ll be interesting to see how her feelings on Bond develop. Unlike The Man With the Golden Gun, the almost constant sex jokes are actually funny here. They fit with Pierce Brosnan better, I think. Having moved into the 90s, the effects have gotten a lot better. They weren’t bad before, but they’ve improved quite a bit. The action and score are just as good, if not better than before. GoldenEye has a strange tendency to jump back and forth between scenes very fast, though.

Goldeneye is the gold standard of spy movies and Bond films. Goldeneye edges out Casino Royale and Skyfall as my favorite Bond film of all time. After decades of campy James Bond movies like Octopussy and A View to a Kill, Bond felt more like a punchline than a suave master spy. The franchise seemed to have lost its way, but Goldeneye brought gritty action, mind-blowing stunts, beautiful and capable Bind girls, and an outstanding cast back to Bond, returning the spy to his iconic and sterling reputation. Pierce Brosnan's Bond convincingly outwitted criminal masterminds and decisively overcame enemy opposition with precision and brutality while also believably charming and romancing beautiful villains and allies. Goldeneye nails every classic Bond element with more tenacity and realism. 006 betraying his country and becoming the evil mirror to 007 provides a deeper antagonist than Bond typically faces. The Bond girls are not helpless damsels but capable enemies or skilled partners that help him save the day. The action set pieces are astonishing, from driving a tank through the busy city streets of St Petersburg to dangling hundreds of feet above the ground in Costa Rice to the incredible base jump in the opening sequence. Even after all these years, Goldneye's effects and action still hold up. It is also the first movie with Judi Dench as M. Goldeneye is quintessential Bond at its absolute best!
