I swear, you show me a sad story and then a picture of those affected at the end, and I'll get to blubbering. Coogler's feature debut and Jordan's first lead role is packed with heart. One of too many stories about police brutality turned to murder, set to show the depth, character, and fully dimensional life of the victim: Oscar Grant III. Ultimately, it's a day in the life that's paced well, not over-long, and delivers powerful emotion. Most of the performances are lacking, for me, but I think the rawness of it all cranks it up to a level that a polished movie may not be able to deliver.
