It’s very interesting how there are some familiar Pinoy movie tropes used in this film (i.e. kabit) but uses these tropes so well to tell a beautiful story. And maybe that’s just proof that we share similar stories. A story from a point of view of a person who has never won in life, may it be with her family, her relationships and even in the beauty pageants that she competed in. And when she does get that win in a beauty pageant, her life left her body. And so, in her death, the people who truly loved her make it a point that she will be remembered as her beautiful self. Jun Lana serves us an entertaining but also a heavy immersion of the life of a transwoman. The decision to have a non-linear storytelling approach ensures the film is engaging from start to end. This film delivers its emotional layers with laudable performances from Paolo Ballesteros and Christian Bables.
