A24 strikes again. This time they made an outstanding war movie from a different angle. The film is about the journey of 4 journalists to the war zone to meet and take an interview with the president who never addressed the press after the civil war broke. Lee (Kirsten Dunst) guides the young Jessie (Cailee Spaeny) in the war zone and takes the best photograph. Their emotional connection and each of their problems in their personal lives are beautifully portrayed. Kirsten Dunst's remarkable performance is the biggest asset of the film. Blood, gunshots, killings; all are so brutal and convey the real terror and fear of the war. Excellent cinematography and editing are the other positives. As with the title 'Civil War'; the film nowhere addresses the reason for the civil war, the victims of it and nothing deeply about it. That should've been added. Missed in theatres. It's completely a theatre material.

enjoyed it, however the question of "what" the Civil War was about remained unanswered, as quite I famously there was a real one in America a long time ago that we never quite hear the end of between North and South. The only inkling we get is that some of the army have gone rogue, one scene has a man wearing red glasses in Army attire ask "the press" where they come from and the guy from Hong Kong is shot but again missing details on the Western Forces (WF) motive for this is hidden in mystery, as described in other reviews, leaving food for thought, I like how the movie makes the viewer think what it would be like, I found this perspective relateable. despite this I went along with it and I am glad I did as it elaborated on a potential scenario, I liked the fact it's not entirely based in science fiction, there is no big superhero or super villain, the press are just trying to survive the conflict and get through the day, the stress of it all gets to Dunst while she Bathes. incredible acting chops from Kristen Dunst and Cailee Spaeney, I felt engaged with the direction of the film, it's unusual to see press-perspective when we turn on our TV's we come to expect "news" to just fall out of the sky somehow but forget there are boots on the ground bringing the message home and war journalists facing the same threat as soldiers makes me admire their bravery. Some of the details again are vague but I think this was deliberate. Even though the concepts are nothing new, it's a fresh style of film, adding the photos as part of the film was a classy design choice. I'm giving it a 5 star because I would recommend it, it can appeal to a wide audience, you can enjoy it regardless of your political leanings and the cast

I just watched Civil War Movie, one of the best war films in recent times. The production design and special effects were excellent and convincing. All of the lead actors are excellent. That ending scene is beyond captivating and pulse-pounding. Cinematography and Music really set the tone.

Well, I could aim for a serious commentary, but I won't. I'll only say that during the first 30 minutes of the movie, I made the mistake of saying that war photographer was one of the professions I would try out if given the opportunity. My boyfriend and my sister-in-law gave me hell, saying that, with my nature, I wouldn't last a minute, and then the rest of the movie was just a sequence of situations that proved their point. The final message, for me personally, was: don't be a war photographer (and respect a lot the people who are).

This Made Me Think... It keeps the information of civil war vague intentionally. Yet it feels relevant to the contemporary world. War is cruel to humanity and it's too late to choose any side in the film. The visuals are unsettling and extremely realistic yet it's aesthetically beautiful in capturing the violence of war. It keeps the photo-journalist in the centre, it's their point-of-view from where we're watching the film.
