Another addition to the film class catalogue, and this is definitely a shift in style, craft, and violence. This is apparently the first film to really embrace violence and sensuality this much and people liked it so much, all five main cast members got nominated for acting Oscars even though maybe 3 of them deserved it at most lol. The actual plot is a little thread bare, but it’s entertaining enough to keep your attention and make you have a little fun while you watch. Surely enough, watching questionable people do questionable things while being likable and entertaining is a genre that transcends time periods.

8.5/10 Beatty and Dunaway’s performances are both remarkable. They both bring a level of emotion to these characters that you would not expect to find. The way this film builds the characters of the Barrow gang is particularly interesting. They’re all made to be fairly sympathetic, despite being rather despicable figures in American history. This film marked an interesting turning point in Hollywood when writers realized protagonists could be evil people, and the writers of “Bonnie and Clyde” made a fairly strong case for that idea. C.W. Moss is the only character that ends up feeling like dead weight. The action that’s here is well presented. “Bonnie and Clyde” is not a particularly action-heavy film, but what’s here is exciting. Everything, from the sound design to the cinematography, works in the action sequences’ favor. Charles Strouse’s score is one of the more memorable ones of this era. It captures the tone, the setting, and the characters perfectly.
