Another German movie set in the WW-II period. The movie starts with a German soldier, Heinrich (Robert Masser) running away from his Nazi squad to find his daughter. He was captured by the squad led by Starnfeld (Alexander Scheer) and hanged. A local woman Elsa (Marie Hacke) cut down the rope and saved him just after the squad left. She took him to her farm where she lives with her mentally challenged younger brother Paule (Simon Rupp). Meantime, the Nazis get into the nearby village where a treasure of gold lay somewhere under the house of a Jewish family. The family members were killed and the house was burnt by their neighbours in the early days of the war. At the edge of the defeat, the Nazis squad needed that Gold for a thier future life after the war. Did the squad find the gold and the soldier ? Did the soldier find his daughter ? The first thing that attracts me in this movie is the making. It's like watching a western movie. In other words we can say, there is some influence of Quentin Tarantino movies. Also the movie looks like 'Sisu'. I came to know that, 'Blood & Gold' was released just a few weeks after 'Sisu' was released. It's a grisly spectacle of brutal and greedy Nazis. The performances of all cast and crew should be mentioned. All of them did their job well. The character's backstory, their current life are shown in a subtle way. But I didn't feel any emotional connection with the characters. Dramatic areas are not well connected. Action scenes look good and realistic. Overall it's a good movie watched recently. If you liked 'Sisu', you may like this also.

As a point of reference, I went into this film completely blind, not having watched the trailer and having no real expectations. I decided to give it a watch simply because I happen to be a fan of the director, Peter Thorwarth, who previously directed the Netflix vampire thriller, Blood Red Sky, which I absolutely loved! With his new film, Blood & Gold, Peter Thorwath walks the same path as features like Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds and various spaghetti westerns. He’s made a gritty, gory, ultra violent film that fully embraces its genre influences. Yet Thorwath also shows he has a knack for characters, and there are many that help spin this twisted, violent, and at times darkly funny war-torn tale! Each scene builds, and no one is ever truly safe, subverting the audience’s expectations. The intoxicating yet sobering mix of action, satire, and thought-provoking commentary on moral ambiguity, deception, heroism, and anti-Semitism, among others, is simply riveting. We also get some fantastic action scenes that range from intense shootouts to ferociously choreographed fight sequences. Thorwath has a creative grasp of shooting and framing action. But what’s most fun is watching the different ways he uses it…How many ways can one kill a Nazi? Well this film invents some I hadn’t even thought of before, and therefore delivers a satisfyingly blood soaked experience! Some scenes simply emphasise the sheer ferocity of war, while other scenes are straightforward genre film joy. With Blood & Gold you have a good story, good characters, and good action rolled up into something genre fans should have a blast with. All three can be thrilling, emotional, or sometimes all-out bonkers which is one of the film’s biggest strengths! Blood & Gold happily wears its influences on its sleeve yet it has its own distinct energy and flavour. It also comes in a tightly structured fast-moving 100-minute package. Yet another good international grab for Netflix!
