Director: Barry Levinson Starring: Armin Mueller-Stahl, Aidan Quinn, Elizabeth Perkins Story: An intergenerational epic about a Polish-Jewish family, spanning from their initial immigration to Baltimore at the turn of the 20th century to the lives of their descendants in the 1980’s Pros: - Deals with themes of family, Americanization, assimilation, Capitalism, and the way technology changed family life beautifully with lots of nuance and subtlety - Great performances, especially from Mueller-Stahl who’s jus perfect - Captures its many different eras with a nice mix of accuracy and nostalgia - Beautifully shot - Sweeping in scope, but extremely personal in content Cons: - Can be a bit corny - Some of the child acting is not always great
