Very interesting how this film served as a great influence, mainly thematic, for EO (2022), both films show human cruelty through the naive look of a donkey, but while EO, it has a much more sensorial approach, which seeks a lot the the donkey's point of view, Balthazar is a much more raw and direct film in its approach, even if it maintains that fascination in seeking the look (voyer) of the donkey. The "cold" style in which Bresson tells the story and introduces the characters also contributes to the feeling that we are a mere spectator, who in turn would be the donkey.
