This movie tells the tale of Argo, an exfiltration operation conducted by the CIA and the Canadian Embassy in Iran to rescue six American diplomats from Tehran after the riots at the American Embassy in 1979. I'm not a fan of the way United Sates conducts its business around the world and I don't necessarily trust the american point of viewn on the Iranian Revolution, but I can't deny that this story is kind of inspiring. Civilians should always be protected in times of crisis and diplomatic collaboration is vital in periods like this. This is not a documentary, though, so the real events happened, of course, a bit differently.

I first received this movie as a freebie for signing up for one of the digital services. I loved the Town and Gone Baby Gone is a decent movie. To my surprise, this has become my favorite Ben Affleck directorial film and one of my favorite acting films of his too Tony Mendez (played by Affleck) is trying to get a group of people out of a hostile area. The decision is to pretend they are shooting a movie and are needed back on location in America. This film is gripping on both the drama and thriller aspects. Even though it's based on a true story and the events are public, Affleck and writer Chris Terrio have a way to keep you invested in these characters and keep you on the edge of your seat. This film also features an all star cast including; Ben Affleck, Brian Cranston, John Goodman, Scoot McNairy, Victor Garber, Clea DuVall, and more.

Alan Arkin and John Goodman provide a perfect balance of heart and humor to this harrowing tale. One of the film’s standout features is its cinematography. The use of old lenses and film cameras imparts a vintage retro feel, making the story feel more genuine and authentic, thereby deepening the audience's investment in the unfolding events. Argo is an intriguing story told masterfully and skillfully earning the Academy’s well deserved honor of Movie of the Year.
