I kind of see what was being attempted here, and I thought the first Alice In Wonderland was alright, but this one definitely had 2nd movie syndrome, im sure they had good intentions, but didn’t have anything to really say with this film.

Andrew Scott prepping to cure a woman's hysteria is uncalled for for many reasons. Missing the Burton magic with less impressive effects and some lazy greenscreen here and there. Everyone seems to be doing an impression of themselves from the first movie and Sacha Baron Cohen's accent bounces between French and Werner Herzog. I don't know if this actually follows the book but it all falls a bit short of good storytelling. There are some good lessons, some fun world building, and a few good puns so it's not all a waste or bad. 295/500 movies & tv for 2024

Honestly what can I say, I love this film. Simple as. The first Act reintroduces us to Alice and establishes the time that’s passed, as she’s now a captain. After confronting Hamish, she sees Absolem, and follows him through a Looking Glass. We learn Hatter is ill, and what he needs to recover is his family back. We then learn that Time is a man and a bit of a twit, and Alice steals the chromosphere to travel back in time to find out what happened to Hatters family. This film really heavily deals with family troubles and the importance to forgive and forget, as you only have so much time with your family, and you only get one. Honestly the way all the different messages combine into this big life lesson is beautiful and really teaches young kids as well as older adults important lessons. Act Two follows Alice as she tries to change the past, but learns the hard way the part cannot be changed, as she travels from time to time, meeting Hatter as a young man and as a child. We also meet young Mirana and Iracabeth, and learn that it was inadvertently Miranas fault that Iracabeths head got so big, and I love all the backstory we get on all our beloved characters throughout the story, it really makes them seem even more real. Act Three has Iracabeth jeopardise the entirety of Underworld as she meets her younger self and the entire universe starts rusting. There’s some really fantastic character moments such as Mirana refusing to leave Iracabeths side knowing she’s slowing her down, and inevitably getting caught, and all of Alice’s friends rusting over, but not before Bayard and Mally charge to project the rest. It’s honestly the little things that really add up. This is also such an entertaining and enjoyable film that I could easily watch it again tomorrow. The film ends with Alice and her Mother starting their own company and sailing off, and it’s a beautiful end to what will heartbreakingly only be a duology, as sadly this film lost Disney money, so sadly the chances of a sequel are next to none. The production was absolutely spectacular, simply incredible, and the acting was perfect just like last time. Overall, one of my favourite films ever!
