AIR” ‼️directed by Ben Affleck is a 2023 sports drama based off the real life events of “NIKE” & “JORDAN” brand’s first debut of crafting the greatest athletic sneaker of all time. “The Nike Air Jordan Retro 1” 👟 a-swell as creating and cementing a branded legacy for the most iconic athlete ever to grace the basketball court. Being a ball player, huge sneaker enthusiast & MJ collector has been a lifelong hobby of mine, next to cinema. So naturally i was looking forward to seeing Ben Affleck & Matt Damon team up again, supported by the spectacular Viola Davis & charismatic Jason Bateman. Affleck plays Phil Knight and Damon stars as Sonny Vaccaro, the first men to don “NIKE” brand. Plot follows as the business try’s to recruit the nations most gifted player. As expected if you have seen the Netflix documentary from (2020) titled “The Last Dance” which is based off MJ and the Bulls, you will be pleased to now that this film lives up to its status and name with solid performances most notably from Viola Davis as Jordan’s mother Deloris. I should mention, Matt Damon also gives an outstanding example of fine acting too.

Brilliant... What might look boring on paper or in the news, is masterfully presented on screen in this film. The well paced and skillfully written screenplay made it very engaging till the last minute and it has been proficiently translated to screen by brilliant performances of every actor who had a significant role. The way it has ended by concluding the film and telling the aftermath of the story by informative quotes and using the actual footage & news articles in between storytelling is really a nice approach to end it. Biographical films have always been an interesting genre to me and i always look forward to watching something inventive.

I loved it for its story telling. Taking a relatively small plot and building a proper movie shows the brilliance of creators. Matt Damon was good as always. Overall, would easily recommend this. Has some foul language otherwise can be watched with family.

The 2023 Ben Affleck’s biographical film ‘Air’ takes us back to the 1980s and gives us a glimpse to the origin of the iconic shoe line ‘Air Jordan’. The story does not have anything special or unique about itself, it is incredibly simple but quite interesting and enjoyable. The script of the film is well-written. The dialogues are funny as well as emotional at times. Moreover, the story is developed very evenly, maintaining the tone and the pacing throughout the whole film. However, the strongest aspect of the film is its cast. With Matt Damon in the leading role, each actor gives an impeccable performance and is able to express their character’s essence and motives perfectly. In addition, the film has a fun, mood lifting, 80s soundtrack that compliments the story very well. In conclusion, it is a good biography that gives us a peak to the creation of a famous shoe line and people behind it.

The biography genre is experiencing a shift and "Air" is part of those tailwinds. Looking back at the ages of seismic shifts in technological and commercial alignments (the past few decades), these movies are telling compelling stories, based not on individual people, but on major events. Air does have a person at its focus, the here silent "Jordan" of the eponymous shoe line. However while the movie does very much highlight Michael Jordan and his impact, the movie's approach of centering this on the shoe industry of the time as well as athlete-sports apparel contracts makes it a broader themed movie. The movie is filled with brilliant performances but it's hinged by two, Matt Damon and Viola Davis. Matt Damon brings a level of depth and nuance to his character without any given backstory which reminds us why he's the man for this (and most other) job(s). Viola Davis's casting was Michael Jordan's one condition for this film's production and while we're not surprised, we're still in awe. Viola Davis brings a sense of quiet gravitas to her character and truly elevates the movie to another level. The movie does slow and speed up but the singular focus from the start to the end gives the movie a sense of purpose that it greatly benefits from. The movie doesn't veer away from the truth and the grounded presentation reinforces that impression. Air doesn't revolutionize the genre but it does it's job well and serves as a great reminder of why movies made us fall for the American Dream in the first place.
