Well, i actually kinda like this one, the tension and thrills is stronger in this film, we can feel that the characters feel, the horror, the fear, confuseness, empathy and several make sense decision making. I kinda like the plot, even though its a cliche "Purge" film format, but i enjoy this film very much. My heart is actually pounding throughout this film. My favourite aspects of this film, its the score, the tension of the score really make the scene way much better than it supposed to be, the score is executed perfectly for me. Overall, this film is alright, its good, its not bad, just another Purge film, but i recommend to watch this if you want to feel a little thrills in your veins.
James DeMonaco's "The Purge" is a horror film that follows James Sandin (Ethan Hawke), who is a father defending his family and home on the night where all crime is legal, the purge. Rating: 3/5 I am a firm believer that "The Purge" is one of the most creative ideas in modern Hollywood, but James DeMonaco's direction and screenplay turn this one of a kind idea into a generic home invasion film that we've seen a million times before. The biggest issue I have with this film is the overall story it tells. As I mentioned, the idea behind the purge is really unique and has a lot of potential, but this film feels too isolated and lacks too much action. I think a film about a day where no crime is legal should have a grander scale with much more chaos. I also believe the story goes in the wrong direction at times. There's a lot of padding out the runtime, and this film and a most of that leads to bad writing decisions. Especially near the end of the film. I will say, though, the small amount of action that we get in this film is choreographed and performed really well. Those were definitely the most exciting and entertaining moments of the entire film. There's also some solid suspense and jump scares here and there as well. Acting is definitely not an issue here. Ethan Hawke leads this film very well. He's easily become one of my favorite actors in recent years for a good reason. Adelaide Kane and Rhys Wakefield are the other two standouts, in my opinion, but just about everybody involved are solid enough. Overall, "The Purge" had every last bit of potential to be a modern horror classic, but wasted it on a generic and poorly written script. I'm still going to check out the rest of the series, though, because I'm still seeing the potential.
5.3/10 First off, thank goodness this movie is paced well. It’s barely an hour and a half, but once the movie gets going, it GETS GOING. The opening to The Purge is actually pretty great. The opening credits, that is. Security footage of Purge events is a good way to set up the insanity that goes on during the Purge. And an Emergency Alert System announcement? Spooky. The only performance (and character) could take seriously was Ethan Hawke’s, and he’s the best part of the movie. He gets a pretty neat action sequence. The antagonists are pretty disturbing, all things considered. Are they goofy in execution? A little, but they are frightening in the ideas and meaning they bring with them. I guess the best way to put it is that I like the idea of this movie, but not necessarily the movie itself.
