Alan Tudyk commits and it is unsettling for me. Chadwick Boseman is one of the greatest ever. Definitely up there for biopics, doesn't include a ton of sports fun, but it delivers at each stage it needs to. Harrison Ford is great as well, and plays the man more worried about money than indignities perfectly: spouting scripture to justify wanting to make more money. In the end it was absolutely the right thing to do, but the initial intentions of "It's gonna happen anyway so let's make money and initiate it" are definitely muddied. Always worth a watch and moves through time in the speediest fashion. 89/500 movies & tv for 2024

incredibly inspiring story told with gravitas, quality, skill, and class. To see a film celebrate the character, resilience, and endurance of a man that withstood prejudice, violence, and bigotry without returning hatred with hatred is just inspiring—brilliant cast with incredible performances. The film focuses on the maturity and bravery of Robinson in overcoming enormous opposition. 42 tells the story well while still capturing the weight and pressure of each moment of the game. I could see Robinson’s skill as well as his motivation and resolve. This movie portrays the sport of baseball well but is ultimately about the power of character in the face of overwhelming opposition and how it can change attitudes, hearts, and minds.
