Aceptable película de ciencia-ficción en un futuro apocalíptico donde reina la ley del más fuerte. En ella tenemos a un extraño protagonista con una misión auto-impuesta que cumplirá por encima de todo. Destaca sobre todo la actuación de Denzel Washington y las grandísimas cantidades de acción de la película. La ambientación está muy currada, tanto por los paisajes como por el tono de desesperación que reina en todo el film. Hacia la mitad de la película el ritmo decae un poco, parece que no se sabe muy bien hacia donde va la cosa y hace que pierdas un poco el interés, intentan meter cierto toque filosófico y se cargan el aura. La parte final no está mal, el secreto del protagonista es muy inesperado.

I remember being floored with the ending when this came out. An edgy look with phenomenonal action choreography and great performances from Oldman and Washington. The kills are pretty epic, the style and look is nice and gives me Frank Miller vibes. Knowing the story makes it easier to spot all the little nuances of the reveal before it comes but makes a rewatch pretty boring. The Book of Eli is a gritty post-apocalyptic tale with savage action and a twist ending that will make you want to watch it all over again. The Book of Eli plays like a modern-day Mad Max or other 80s post-apocalyptic tale but stripped of its campiness and reinforced with Denzel’s reliable, powerful, and yet vulnerable performance. Washington’s mysterious Eli is driven and focused solely on his mission, but as the plot progresses, he grows to care for a person in need. The action sequences are brutal and precise, emphasizing Eli’s incredible skill and immediately defining him as a force to be reckoned with. Mika Kunis and Gary Oldman bring strong performances to the supporting cast, further grounding a movie that could have easily ended up as another goofy end-of-the-world film. The ending surprises making the audience want to immediately rewatch the movie with this new revelation and see it with new eyes. The Book of Eli is one of my favorite Denzel movies in a catalog of incredible films.
