I think it’s nothing less than brilliant to reboot a franchise for the modern era then the way JJ Abrams does it here. Now I don’t know how much of a hot take this might be but I believe the take on this movie revitalized the franchise with fantastic visuals, engaging action sequences and great character work that the actors elevate with their charisma. “Your father was captain of a Starship for 12 minutes, he saved 800 lives, including yours, I dare you to do better” Very early on the sheer line delivery and dialogue that was displayed really invested me completely in this story, and in the character of James Kirk. Now to mention Spock, this is my favorite character in the movie, his Vulcan as well as human heritage playing a major part of his character constantly. Throughout the film emotions are the major beats for Spock and JJ Abrams showcases it so well. I don’t think the film would work as well as it does if Nero didn’t work. Being from the future and altering the course of history the moment they attacked the USS Kelvin, he and the Romulan ship are this massive threat that although not justified, you can understand their motivations and their history with the original timeline Spock really is the cherry on top.
