"Rocky (Sylvester Stalone) is now well retired, reminising stories in his restaraunt of times if old to keen boxing enthusiasts, when a controversial sports comparison programme pits a virtual Rocky against the current champions depicting a Rocky win. This outrages the current champion, pushing him to entice Rocky into the ring one last time to prove the critics wrong. Que the classic training montage with the conclusion here done nicely and in a very different way making a nice end to the franchise. This would have made a better Rocky 5 in my opinion.
6.1/10 The cinematography can be pretty shaky at times. It looks like they were trying to do still shots but then just did them handheld for no reason. Sylvester Stallone still can’t act, but at least this one is actually well written, so it’s tolerable. Rocky’s reminiscing on his relationship with Adrian is pretty long winded. It was nice to see Paulie finally feeling bad for treating Adrian poorly. It’s a little strange that a good chunk of Rocky’s fight with Mason is done like a real fight, but this also came out 16 years after Rocky V and it’s more of an epilogue than anything. The score is much more somber than any of the past entries, which I can appreciate, considering the addendum nature of this movie. “Gonna Fly Now” comes back one last time too, which is nice.
