Lorrrrrrrd my heart can only take so much! The build up to the soul crushing ending was so worth it, Its a soppy story to begin with, but hooks you without you knowing, and then smashes you to finish. One of the best romance films ever, and a hell of a tear jerker.

The Notebook is what I consider to be a beautiful love story, following two teenagers with completely different financial situations that fall in love one summer in the 1940s. What looks to be love at first sight for Noah, he seemed determined to go to great lengths to get a date with Allie Hamilton, who was only spending the summer there with her family. For the most part I think the movie is very predictable but I didn’t really mind, it was clear that their love was going to hit a huge brick wall at one point. With Allie’s parents not approving, her going away and the world being in the brink of a World War, their love for the time seemed very much over. Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling give amazing performances, I completely bought the love between these two people. I’m not one that enjoys love stories that much, but I thought that Noah keeping such a big promise to someone he never heard from after sending a letter everyday for a year was really profound and touching. A character that would obviously come off as infuriating for keeping our protagonists away from each other. While also being responsible for hiding every single letter Noah had sent to make sure Allie moved on. Allie’s mother nonetheless plays a role in this that I really enjoyed. A driving force for Allie to make her final decision and have no regrets in the end, she shows Allie a man she once knew, and maybe even the man she would’ve been happier with despite loving Allie’s father. She becomes a very endearing part of the story by also having kept all the letters that were meant for Allie, knowing that maybe her daughter would’ve needed them some day. It was difficult to resonate in the beginning with the older actors. I’m not saying they’re bad in any way, they were great, at first it seemed that Noah and Allie’s love story was just being told by one person to another, once I realized what was going on, I got into it more but I felt a much deeper connection to this couple with Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, for most of the movie I couldn’t really connect with them as much seeing them old. Thankfully by the end that changed. After a tough scene where Noah asks Allie to choose what SHE wants no matter if it’s him or not, she makes her way back to him and we’re able to see more of them old. It was pretty sad that she doesn’t recognize the man she chose to be with for more than just a couple of minutes. Them dying together holding hands was a bittersweet ending, a miracle that they weren’t separated by death, but sad that they both had passed. An ending I felt I was fine with.

Well where to begin other than the fact i just got hit by a truck, and cried me a river at a romantic movie. I honestly did not expect to actually cry and be so emotionally involved in the relationship between the 2 characters but damn, okay. (He’s literally me) I’ve always heard many good things about The Notebook throughout the years and that it is one of the best romantic movies out there and that it was the movie where Ryan Gosling made his break trough with. But other than that i did not know anything about the movie, so it was an amazing experience going in blind and let it come at me, without any spoilers beforehand. Noah (Ryan Gosling) and Allie (Rachel McAdams) had such good chemistry in this movie, it actually felt like you were watching their biography love story. The pace of the movie was absolutely perfect as well, and deserves to be applauded at because they did an amazing job at making the viewer feel the way the characters feel and make you care about them to then break you down emotionally whenever something sad happend between them and then bring you back up shortly after, it did a wonderful job at that. And my favorite quote from the entire movie, which gave me a chuckle and some teary eyes, that deserve to be in this review is: “You tell me when I am being an arrogant son of a bitch and I tell you when you are a pain in the ass. Which you are, 99% of the time. I'm not afraid to hurt your feelings. You have like a 2 second rebound rate, then you're back doing the next pain-in-the-ass thing.” I could go on and on at how good this movie was, but i’m sure most of you have already seen it, if not I highly recommend it and belongs in my all time favorite list, for being the best romantic movie i have ever seen! ★★★★★ - All time favorites (10/10)

There really isn't any negative to say about this classic romantic drama. It's wholesome, emotional, fun and comforting. I would recommend this to any Nicholas Sparks fans, any hopeless romantics and frankly, anyone with good taste!

5.5/10 Everything about this movie exudes “cliché.” I knew exactly who the old couple was the second they came on screen. The main conflict is rich vs. poor. Speaking of the conflict, it feels so light for most of the movie. I have no issue with it being small scale, obviously. It just feels like nothing is really wrong for most of the film. These characters did absolutely nothing for me. I could relate to Noah on some level, and not even that made me interested in him. I didn’t like this type of framing device in Titanic and I don’t like it here. Cutting back to the present kills the pacing, as well as the tension that might’ve been here, had the present Noah not literally confirmed that he and Allie ended up together 30 minutes before the past sections did.
