Yeah, I'm gonna rate every childhood favourite as a 5 stars movie and I don't care what anybody thinks. On second thought, Shrek 1 really isn't my favourite one from Shrek universe, so I'll have to correct that. Still, I have a lot of affection for it and I think it is a great film. The creators put a lot of good references in it. I also love how it challenges our concepts and beauty standards, critiquing fairy tales in a way children can understand. It is great.

I don't have to justify this, It's great, I'm not ashamed by saying that! All of the Shrek and Smash Mouth memes have made this film a joke, but in a vacuum, its a lot of fun, and amazingly animated. Lets just forget there were any sequels and pretend this franchise didn't become a joke.

I don't think humanity will ever create something that Surpasses Shrek.

Is entertaining for both kids and adults, and the satirical twist on fairy tales has always been one of my favorite aspects of this franchise. The animation was revolutionary at the time, Shrek has memorable characters, clever pop culture references, an amazing voice cast, and themes of self-acceptance and love. Genuinely very impressive how seamlessly Shrek stands against the test of time. Tackles a lot in regards to body issues and confidence while journeying through a really rich and enchanting world. I remembered every scene more than I anticipated to given how brief a runtime we have. Despite that brevity, the character development is still considerably strong. Only thing that really took me aback was how blatantly the film adds in its rare swear words and its much more frequent crudeness. What a feat! ★★★★ - near perfect (8/10)
