Michael Caine did not need to go this hard, but he did and I love him for it. A classic retelling, gonzo narration, slapstick, jokes for all ages, and 4th wall comedy all come together for a great musical. I think Brian Henson honored his dad appropriately with the creativity and work he put in as well. Rizzo and Gonzo are my standout performances and Statler and Waldorf get the de-aging treatment that only works for one of them. I am curious of how you decide who gets to be a real human or a Muppet human, but I guess that's why the director and producers get paid the big bucks. 7.2/10 The jokes are generally pretty funny here. Most of them had me laughing a bit. I actually found Gonzo and Rizzo to be the funniest parts of the film, even though their segments regularly feel like filler. I also liked how the opening credits credited the Muppets. I expected Michael Caine to sort of phone in his performance here, but he really didn’t. No surprise that the voice performers for the Muppets themselves were fantastic as well. While the songs are all good, some of them (namely “One More Sleep ‘Til Christmas”) can feel unnecessary, in the sense that they explain something that doesn’t need explaining. The score was good as well, though. When it had chances to shine, it did.
