When - 1:10 PM Where - Paramount+ With Who - Father, Mother, Myself First Thoughts - What a freaking film, my goodness I was completely blown away by this movie. The cinematography is immaculate, each frame almost like a work of art. The score, which was nominated for an Oscar and won a Grammy, is one of the most beautiful scores I think I’ve ever heard in a film. I don’t often pay super close attention to a movie’s score, but this one grabbed my attention and refused to let go. There is even a scene that emulates the famous Odessa Stair Scene from Battleship Potemkin, and it is done so well the tension had me on the edge of my seat. The plot is a straightforward cops versus bootleggers story, but the simplicity of the story allows for the depth of the characters. Kevin Costner gives one of my favorite performances from him as Treasury Officer Eliot Ness, a moral family man hellbent on bringing Robert De Niro’s Al Capone to justice. De Niro’s turn as the infamous Chicago gangster, despite being present for very little of the film’s runtime, steals every scene he’s in. At the same time, he manages to be charismatic and sinister, managing the press with a quick wit and his underlings with a bloodied baseball bat. Sir Sean Connery plays the fictional grizzled, career beat cop Jim Malone, in a role that nabbed him the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. His line delivery and the dialogue written for him make for one of the most compelling characters in the whole movie. A young Andy Garcia and deceptively tough Charles Martin Smith round out the main cast as the rookie sharpshooter cop George Stone and tough-as-nails Treasury Accountant Oscar Wallace round out the rest of the main cast. The stakes the group of protagonists face always feel very real, heartbreaking losses being experienced throughout the film. Director Brian De Palma also doesn’t skimp on his usual brand of over-the-top bloody violence, and it further drives the animalistic greed that has possessed Capone and his minions. Overall, this is an outstanding film that I’m very excited to return to in the future.

Cuando juntas a Kevin Costner, Robert de Niro, Andy Garita y Sean Connery bajo la dirección de Brian de Palma solo puedes esperar una obra maestra; bueno eso desde mi humilde punto de vista. The Untouchables cuenta la historia de como Eliot Ness y su grupo de agentes del tesoro logran atrapar a Al Capone en medio de la prohibición de Estados Unidos. Los intocables nos trae esa violencia de los años 30’s, pero bien representanda en los 80's gracias a la dirección de Brian de Palma. Las actuaciones impecables de Costner, De Niro y Connery son tan convincentes como violentas muy acordes a la época. Lo que tal vez no te llegaría a gustar es el exceso de violencia, pero si eso no te causa problemas veras una gran representación de los Estados Unidos de la prohibición.
